BarDownBrews Rating

BDB Rating - 96

Spoonwood Brewing Co. has everything we are looking for in a Brewery. It is only 2.5 miles from Ice Castle Arena. It is easy to find and located on a lot all to itself with ample parking. The inside is very open, modern and clean. The bar area is ideal for individuals or small groups and blends very well with the large dining area. The beer is crisp and refined. And the food menu should be appealing to all members of your party - even a "Junior Brewers' Menu" - Kids Menu.
The openness of Spoonwood gives the impression more of a restaurant than a brewery, hence the great family friendly vibe. The menu confirms they are serious about their food with such items as brisket, smoked lamb gyro, salads like beet & apple and squash & sprouts. This is one of the few breweries which caters to younger eaters - great for all the youth hockey teams (and we saw a full youth team while there).
However this is a brewery and to get such a high rating, you better have great beer, which they do. Spoonwood doesn't have flights but very reasonably priced samples (~$2 for 5oz). We were very pleased with the array of styles represented - milkshake IPA, red lager, stout, smoked amber, even a gingerbread ale. Everything we sampled was very good to great. All beers seemed to be very "crisp' and 'clean'. We were even pleasantly surprised by Working Class Hero - a cream ale. And very impressed with Cold Drip City - Coffee Blonde (had to grab a 4 pk to share with others). They also have local spirits, mead, cider and wine for anyone looking for something other than beer.
Bonus: They have a large outdoor area with live music in the summer. We're told this is a great place to hang on nice days but even with a large lot, parking can get scarce on those perfect days.
Overall we recommend this place for any sized group (call ahead for large groups). They have something for everyone food and beer-wise. It is tough to please everyone but Spoonwood has the best shot at nailing it.
