Our January 2020 Winner was Spoonwood Brewing Company. (click for full brewery review).
Out of all the breweries visited in 2019, Spoonwood best nails our main assessment categories: solid beer, excellent food offering, space for large parties, family friendly, pleasant atmosphere and close proximity to rink.
When we told our friends in Pittsburgh about BarDownBrews the first place they said we had to visit was Spoonwood. They were right, it does more then simply check off all the boxes.
Things we love: Stand alone establishment (nice change from the common industrial park) – Spoonwood was very well designed. The parking lot is large (we are told it still fills up at peak times). The inside seems even larger with a giant open seating area. It has a nice sized bar that blends in well with the rest of the dining area. Great to see the “Junior Brewers’ Menu” for kids. And the clean, crisp taste of all beers sampled was very refreshing and demonstrated a refined brewing craftsmanship. Lastly the outside area also looks well designed and we look forward to visiting during the warmer months to check it out.
Bottom line: This is a great place for any hungry/thirsty sized group (as always, we encourage you to call ahead for large parties). Check it out after your next hockey game.
